Who We Are
It’s important to us that we know who we are. Our parents encouraged us, from our early childhood in Ukraine, to find our true calling in life. They told us it wouldn’t just appear one day; it would take trial and error. As we grew up, we did many interesting things, things we enjoyed, each time thinking we had found our calling. And then something else would come along. It was not until we were grown and had developed more of a sense of who we are that we began to understand that our calling was in creating. By creating, my family and I share who we are with others.
We Want to Create
My brother-in-law Viktor, our master tailor, was always very particular (and now he is even more so). When he was a teen, he always said that he wanted to make the perfect product with a perfectly straight seam. Every time he bought something (e.g., shoes, t-shirts), he checked how it was made, especially how the seams looked. If the seams were not straight, he wouldn’t buy it. So Viktor and his straight seams became a joke in our family.
One day, Viktor decided to sew the kind of wallet he had always wanted—a simple pocket wallet with a straight seam. It was so well made that he sold it the next day. He made another; he sold another. Soon, we were making leather goods for all of our friends. Our goods became so popular that we were invited to the arts markets. We sold everything we made. We had found our calling—creating leather goods.
Then, as now, people appreciated the straight seam. They recognized us as true leather artisans from our stitching. Only by examining the stitching very closely can you tell where it starts and where it ends, the last row is so perfectly laid over the first. Never is there a loose thread.
The Internet gave us the exciting opportunity to sell our goods outside Ukraine. We could share our passion all over the world. But the distance caused a problem. Shipping to the U. S. could take up to a month. That was not the type of service we wanted to provide, so we moved to North Carolina to be closer to our many American friends who value our handmade leather products.
Our dream has come true. We fashion high-quality leather products with the ideal straight seam that make people happy. We invite you to contact us and tell us your ideas on how an item can become uniquely yours.
